PRESS RELEASE – Sutherland Shire School Inaburra wins innovation award
Leading education sector magazine The Educator has released its Annual Innovative Schools Report and the Sutherland Shire’s Inaburra School has been rated as one of the most innovative schools in Australia. The Report involved assessment of schools across all States in Australia based on its use of technology and its ability to enhance student learning.
In its latest edition, The Educator has highlighted the work of 40 schools who, in their view, deserve special recognition. Each school is seen as having introduced an innovative edge in learning and all aspects of K-12 education. Each school is seen as being at the cutting edge of applying creative and innovative practices.
Inaburra’s innovative Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program seeks to integrate student learning in the classroom with learning at home. It does so by encouraging students in Years 5-12 to use their own device to undertake creative learning and submit work online. Inaburra attempts to ground a student’s ICT use in line with school values and thus guides students in the responsible use of technology. The school also ensures that balance is maintained in the use of technology by integrating it into the wider context of student learning.
According to the magazine “ technology continues to prove its ability to drive improvements in student outcomes, whilst supporting schools to move away from traditional methods. Schools are being challenged to review the impact and use of new technologies, whilst improving how parents are engaged throughout their child’s learning journey.
Technology presents real challenges for educators and only those prepared to embrace change and embody innovation in a variety of forms and try new approaches to teaching and learning will shape the educational landscape of the future.”
Inaburra has been recognised as an exemplar school through its innovative approach to teaching and learning.
